What should you look for when you need an attorney?

EXPERIENCE:

How many years has this attorney been practicing law?
This is important. Why? Because with years of experience comes a greater chance that he or she has successfully handled a case like yours. Check qualifications, experiences and background of the attorney you are thinking about hiring. Type the attorney’s name into google.com and do a little research of your own.

Stephen and Lorri King each have over 25 years of experience in successfully practicing many areas of law. They have handled a wide range of legal issues including mediation, family law, criminal law, personal injury law, worker’s compensation, general litigation, municipal law, estate planning, probate law, real estate law and business law. Chances are they have successfully worked on a case very similar to yours.

BIG FIRM or SMALL FIRM?

Is the attorney part of a big firm, a small firm or is he or she practicing on their own?
Another important question. Simply because the attorney works in a large firm doesn’t mean he or she is more capable. And conversely, if the lawyer practices on his or her own, it doesn’t mean that he or she is not capable of handling your case successfully.

We believe that the Law Offices of King & King gives you “the best of both worlds.” You will get not only the personalized attention and strategic advice you deserve, you will also have the services of an attorney who is thoroughly knowledgeable about your case.

Individual attention to the details of your case is critical. It assures you of an advocate who has the advantage of many of the resources of a larger firm, such as other attorneys to consult with and an experienced and helpful staff, but also gives you the personalized attention of a smaller firm.

COMMUNICATION AND EDUCATION:

What is the attorney’s policy on keeping me informed? Will the attorney explain things to me without making me feel stupid?
Definitely. You can rest assured that we won’t “talk down” to you, nor will we assume that you have a legal background. After all, that’s why you’re looking for an attorney to represent you!

How will I know what’s happening, how long things will take or how much it will cost?

After an initial consultation with you, we’ll be able to give you a general idea of what to expect. Without knowing all of the facts of your case, reviewing your records and anticipating every possible situation, it would be impossible for us to provide an exact quote of what fees you will be charged. However, you should feel free to ask what charges would normally be incurred in a case similar to yours. You can also ask to be kept advised of charges at any stage in your representation.

Will my attorney and his or her staff stay in touch with me and update me on the progress of my case?…And if I have a quick question, who do I call?

You can be sure that we will stay in touch with you every step of the way, keeping you up to date on your case as it progresses. Our staff is always here to help – feel free to call anytime.

Can I ask that we correspond by email or does everything have to be in writing?
And yes, many of our clients prefer to correspond via email or fax. We’re more than happy to meet those needs as well.

Does the lawyer or firm have a web site?
While our web site isn’t going to answer every question you might have, we’re hopeful that it will provide answers to at least some of them. You should always feel free to ask questions and you should expect accessibility from your attorney.

REPRESENTATION

“Will my attorney be there with me if I have a deposition or have to appear in Court?”

Absolutely. You should expect to receive quality representation from start to finish. At the Law Offices of King & King, you can count on us to treat you with the respect you deserve. You will find our team to be supportive each step of the way – We are here to be your advocate.

Maybe you have never needed one before.
But now that you do . . .

How will you find a good one?

Perhaps you know a friend or neighbor who just might know of a good attorney…Or should you check out the phone book and just call the attorney with the biggest ad or the largest firm in town? They MUST be the best…right? How about the commercial you saw on TV or the 800 number on that billboard you drove past? What about the attorney that your grandmother used to draw up her will? Or the firm your neighbors used when their teenager got in serious trouble? The fact that you’re here, on our website, means you’re probably looking for some answers. You need a good attorney. How do you find the right one for you? You could take a risk and perhaps you’d get lucky and end up being satisfied with the legal help you received. Or … perhaps not. We know how critical this choice is and we believe it’s important that you have as much information as possible before selecting an attorney to represent you. Okay, so just what will you need to know before you make that important decision?

While this certainly isn’t meant to be an exhaustive list of questions you should be asking, it may help you successfully choose the kind of representation that’s right for YOU.

Remember, hiring the RIGHT ATTORNEY is clearly one of the most critical components in getting a successful end result to your case.
